What does “frost-free” mean in concrete terms?
Frost-free means that the product is designed to empty itself of water after use. When there is no water left in the pipe/fitting, the risk of frost cracking is minimised. Frostline uses a mechanical, self-emptying system without electricity.
What does it take for an outdoor shower/outdoor tap to be frost-free in practice?
There are two simple requirements:
- There must be a frost-free water supply
- water must be able to drain out of the product after use
If the drain/drain is not properly fixed during installation, the frost function will not work as intended.
Do I still need to turn off the water in winter?
It depends on your installation. Self-draining helps, but frost-free operation requires that the water can drain away. If you are in doubt about your water supply or drainage, choose a solution where the installation is reviewed by a professional.
Are there both wall-mounted and free-standing Frostline solutions?
The choice is yours. You can choose a wall-mounted outdoor shower, free-standing outdoor shower, wall-mounted outdoor tap (tap valve) or free-standing hydrant - depending on where you want the water in your garden/patio.

What about maintenance (stainless steel, limescale and rust)?
Frostline recommends lubricating the product with acid-free oil immediately after installation and then repeating the treatment 2-3 times a year. In particularly exposed environments (e.g. close to the coast with salt/moisture), more frequent treatment is recommended to prevent rusting.
